On November 1, Storied turns the spotlight on Dylan himself with The Jewish Contribution to Bob Dylan.

Hosted by Benji Rosenzweig with special guest, acclaimed music journalist Eve Barlow, the evening will explore the Jewish people who inspired Dylan, the Jewish musicians and collaborators who shaped his work, and the Jewish texts, ideas and themes woven throughout his music.

About Adam Duritz Adam Duritz is the frontman of Counting Crows, the band behind hits like "Mr. Jones," "Round Here," and "A Long December." He's the son of two physicians, Gilbert and Linda Duritz, and has spoken publicly about growing up Jewish, his mental health journey (including his 2008 disclosure of dissociative disorder), and his complicated relationship with faith and heritage — themes that run through much of his songwriting. His Ties to Israel Duritz visited Israel multiple times as a teenager and has described a strong, lasting emotional connection to the country. He spent significant time in Jerusalem studying Torah at a yeshiva in the Old City, calling the experience deeply meaningful. At 18, he lived on Kibbutz Nir Oz, working the land and living what he's called "the young Zionist dream." He hiked extensively around the country during that time, including through the Sinai. Of the kibbutz experience, Duritz said it "taught me what work is — to wake up at break of dawn every day and work with your hands." He finally performed live in Israel in 2022, an experience he'd long anticipated. He described the feeling of being in a predominantly Jewish environment as uniquely comforting, calling Israel "intoxicating, a very heady liquor" — and spoke about the singular experience of being "not just one in the crowd, you're a part of the crowd." Kibbutz Nir Oz and October 7th Kibbutz Nir Oz — where Duritz lived as a young man — was one of the communities hit hardest on October 7th, 2023: Nearly 400 residents lived there before the attack. It was among the first kibbutzim infiltrated, starting around 6:30 AM on October 7th. 46 members were killed. 71 were taken hostage; many were released in the November 2023 exchange, leaving 29 Nir Oz members still held by Hamas at the time of this recording. 40% of the kibbutz's homes were burned to the ground; rebuilding is expected to take two to three years. The clip includes footage/commentary referencing the Bibas family and Yair Moses, Sagui Dekel Chen and many others from Nir Oz. Yair's father, Gadi Moses, was still held hostage at the time of filming — one of 29 from the kibbutz and one of over 100 Israeli hostages overall. Why It Matters for This Story Duritz's connection to Nir Oz transforms a piece of Counting Crows trivia into something far heavier: a rock star's formative "gap year" turned into a direct, personal link to one of the most devastating sites of October 7th. It's a reminder that the "untold Jewish stories" behind familiar music can carry present-day weight, not just historical footnotes. What is Storied?
